The Eastern entrance to the Garden Route starts in the Friendly City of Port Elizabeth, you’ll see and feel the changing landscape…and why we call it The Garden Route. The lush Tsitsikamma forest awaits within 2 hours drive.
Our leisurely journey takes us through the cool, calming Tsitsikamma National Park, the charming coastal towns of Plettenberg Bay and Knysna with it’s well established fine arts and crafts centre, glorious lagoon and sandstone ‘Heads’ standing sentry where the lagoon meets the sea, via ferry to the Featherbed Nature Reserve set at the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon. Then we’re off to Oudtshoorn(pronounced Oats Horn) , dubbed the feather capital of the world. If you haven’t heard or read about the Cango Caves, prepare for something extraordinary. Their magnificent drip stone formations of stalactites and stalagmites, are an awe-inspiring natural creation, and we’ll be standing right inside them.
Depending on the season, our return to Cape Town will either involve a gentle drive along the coast at Hermanus, so we can catch a glimpse of Southern Right whales frolicking off shore; or, we’ll take you via the scenic Route 62. Feathers to fine art to forests, our Garden Route Splendour tour gives you a little of everything you’ll like best!
We set off West traveling to the indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest some 150km from Port Elizabeth and further towards the romantic seaside resort of Knysna, in the heart of the famous Garden Route, with scenic stops along the way. Dinner and overnight in Knysna.

This morning we enjoy the wonderful views of the lake district between Knysna and George before crossing the spectacular Outeniqua Mountain Pass en route to Oudtshoorn, the ‘feather capital of the world’, so named, because it’s the centre of South Africa’s ostrich industry. After lunch, we learn more about these hardy, enigmatic creatures during a tour of an ostrich farm. We then head underground for a fascinating tour of the Cango Caves, one of South Africa’s most incredible natural wonders. Overnight in Oudtshoorn.
